Renault has reopened the Australian order book for the updated Megane E-Tech, giving EV buyers another mid-priced electric hatchback to consider as they plan finance for 2027 deliveries.
The refreshed model is priced from $55,990 plus on-road costs in a single Esprit Alpine grade, with showroom arrivals due in the first half of 2027 after a break in local availability.

The update is relevant for buyers not only because another European EV is returning, but because the numbers sit in a busy part of the market. A price in the mid-$50,000s before on-road costs can look very different once stamp duty, registration, insurance, optional accessories and any financed setup costs are included. For anyone comparing an ev loan, the drive-away figure and the amount actually borrowed are likely to matter more than the advertised base price.

Renault says the revised Megane E-Tech uses a 67kWh LFP battery, with claimed WLTP range of up to 480km. DC fast-charging capacity has also increased to 165kW, while AC charging rises to 11kW and vehicle-to-load functionality has been added. Those changes may improve day-to-day convenience, although real-world range and charging times still depend on driving conditions, charger availability, weather and how the vehicle is used.

The launch offer also needs careful reading. Renault’s own terms say eligible private retail customers who place a $200 online deposit by 31 December 2026 and later complete the purchase and take delivery may receive a 7kW wall charger. However, the offer is charger supply only; installation is not included and must be arranged at the customer’s cost through an appropriately licensed electrician. That distinction matters because home charging installation can vary widely depending on the property, switchboard and electrical work required.

For finance planning, the Megane E-Tech is a useful reminder that EV affordability is not just a repayment figure. Buyers may wish to model several scenarios, including a larger deposit, different loan terms, a possible balloon payment and whether charger installation or upfront fees would be paid separately or financed. The EV Loan Calculator can be used as an educational estimate for those types of repayment and cost assumptions.

There is also timing risk to consider. With deliveries due in 2027 and production or delivery lead times potentially extending, competing EV prices, lender rates, incentives and trade-in values may shift before handover. The Megane’s return adds choice, but the stronger finance approach is still to compare the total cost of ownership, not just the badge, range claim or launch incentive.

Recent car loan market updates suggest competition in electric vehicle finance is still active, with some lenders using green loan offers and sharper advertised rates to attract borrowers. For Australian EV buyers, that is encouraging, but it also makes the comparison process more important rather than less. A lower headline rate can reduce borrowing costs, yet it is only one part of the overall loan decision. - read more

Australia’s electric vehicle market is no longer moving in one straight line. After the sharp lift in battery electric sales earlier this year, the latest market updates suggest buyers are still interested in EVs, but demand is becoming more selective. Model availability, price cuts, new entrants, delivery timing and household budget pressure are all influencing which cars gain momentum from month to month. - read more
